Phase 03

Project Possible Phase 03

After a well-deserved break from the mountains, the third and final phase began with only three out of the fourteen 8.000m peaks remaining. Cho Oyu and Manaslu were the first to be claimed, but a new challenge had been hanging over the project: a nail-biting wait for a permit from the China Tibet Mountaineering Association to climb the 14th and final peak, Shishapangma. The mountain was closed to all climbers for the season, but after weeks of negotiation, it was with great relief the team received news that the Chinese government had granted permission for the necessary paper work to be issued.

The final assault began with a 15hr non-stop climb in extreme weather conditions whilst narrowly avoiding avalanches. The team would have to dig deep right up until the very end. Then on October 29th 2019 with weeks to spare, from the summit of Shishapangma, Nims surrounded by his team proudly announced to the world, ‘Mission Achieved’. He had delivered on his promise and what many had claimed to be ‘impossible’.

Brotherhood

“The journey of 14/7 has tested us all the way though at many levels. Together we have been through so much. We climbed not only as a team, but as brothers with one sole goal to make the impossible possible, pushing human limitations to next level. Now, the BROTHERHOOD that we share between us is even STRONGER!” – Nims.

The Project Possible team included Nims and his Nepalese companions Mingma David Sherpa, Geljen Sherpa, Lakpa Dendi Sherpa, Gesman Tamang and Halung Dorchi Sherpa, along with Dawa Sherpa who acted as a base camp manager.

Project Possible also gave Nims’ Nepalese team of Sherpa guides the chance to have their own achievements recognised on the world stage, with Mingma David setting the record for the youngest person to summit all 14 of the Earth’s highest mountains, completing nine of these summits during the project.

A record breaking project

Alongside the overall goal of climbing the world’s 14 tallest peaks, Nims achieved a further six world records in the process. No one could have guessed how quickly Nims and the team would complete the challenge. But the skill, planning, awareness and sheer self-belief of Nims and his team have shown that even the impossible, is possible. Visit the Project Possible page to learn more.
